Tartaric acid is a natural organic acid present in grapes, and is used in the following industries:

• In the food industry as an acidifier and natural preservative, a raising-agent, an ingredient for biscuits, sweets, jellies, jams and soft drinks

• In the building industry in the preparation of plaster and cement for plastering
• In wine production, as an acidifier for wine and grape musts
