Our commitment to the environment

Environmental Policy

The emergence of global markets and the growing trend for businesses to be environmentally aware have strengthened our commitment to protecting the environment.

This commitment was officially recognised in 2003 when Caviro adopted the model established by UNI EN ISO 14001:2004. Following this development, the sites at Faenza and Forli were certified in accordance to the outlined structure.

The Environmental Policy details the Environmental Management System of the Caviro Group. This policy statement affirms the company’s commitment to supporting the protection of the environment, sets out the general principles on which this commitment is based and includes any relevant strategic decisions. Caviro’s policy is to:

• Recycle in order to reduce the consumption of non-renewable energy and unnecessary waste
• Reduce water consumption
• Monitor the environment closely to ensure prompt intervention in an emergency
• Maintain an environmental management system that meets the complex needs of the business
• Improve the environmental performance of the business and ensure ongoing development of environmental practices
• Adopt an open approach with Public Authorities in order to improve all processes environmentally
• Foster a sense of responsibility for the environment in staff, partners, suppliers and clients through training, encouragement and incentives

Integrated Cycle and Energy Self-Sufficiency

From vineyards to energy self-sufficiency: the Caviro Group is committed to the environment

The vineyards are not solely used to make wine from grapes - the by-products of the winemaking process (the must, the lees and the marc) are used to make sugars and grape juices, alcohol, calcium tartrate, tartaric acid and compost used for agricultural purposes – ultimately, ENERGY. Every year Caviro transforms over 280.000 tons of by-products a weight comparable with the 275.000 tons of the Empire State Building in New York.

The purification and incineration of the waste from the food product line allows for the total energy self-sufficiency of the Caviro facilities.

Zero Emissions

The Caviro Group is strongly committed to working towards the goals outlined by the Kyoto Protocol. We use renewable sources instead of conventional resources to generate power. In addition, organic matter generated by the winemaking process is returned to the land. This integrated cycle is extremely valuable achieving almost ZERO IMPACT on the environment.
